With cheap and affordable fashion so readily available, Australians are spending more money than ever to look good all year round.

According to the Australian Security and Investments Commissions, Australians are spending $5.1 billion dollars on fashion each year.

Yet the ABC has reported that this affordability is resulting in Australians sending around $500 million dollars worth of clothing to the tip annually.

This wasteful attitude has resulted in the push for more sustainability within the fashion industry, from both retailers and consumers.

Annelise Answerth met with Georgia McCorkill, an RMIT Fashion and Textiles Lecturer to ask if more sustainability in fashion would have a detrimental effect on the industry and its economy.
